A redesign of Mount Tabor United Methodist Church's website. The project was completed using the website builder, Wix, and was designed specifically to be easy to maintain and update as the Church's needs changed. I worked with the Senior Pastor and different staff to develop a website that both suited the needs of the congregation and that would attract potential visitors.
Mount Tabor is a United Methodist church with approximately 2,100 members, two worship services and ministries for people of all ages. Located in Winston-Salem, NC, the church was founded in 1845 and has a long history it the surrounding community. The new website was developed with the primary goal of improving communication. It aims to create a welcoming atmosphere for both visitors and members while incorporating features that cater to the evolving needs of the church, such as streaming capabilities.
Mount Tabor UMC's mission statement is to “Gather joyfully, grow spiritually, and go faithfully to share God's Word in love and action” often simplified to “Gather, Grow, Go.” In the past, this has guided the organization of information on the website, however, it was noted that these terms are not be immediately clear to visitors. To address this, research was conducted on other church websites in the local area as well as churches of the same denomination. The updated website now employs more widely recognized categories such as "Worship," "Connect," and "Serve." “Gather, Grow, Go” is still featured on the homepage with new icons that communicate the meaning and guide navigation to associated pages.
Flexibility was a key consideration in the design of the website. Recognizing the importance of adapting to different seasons and worship series, the landing page has been specifically designed to be easily updated. This pairs with a section dedicated to the sermon topic of the week. Additionally, an upcoming events section was added to the homepage to highlight three key events or announcements each week.
